Treasury Management

The post-graduate programme in Treasury Management trains students to be Registered Treasurers. The well-established programme has proved its value for more than ten years now, and it is recognized by the International Group of Treasury Associations (IGTA).
The profession of Corporate Treasurer has been around for quite some time. From an international perspective, the field has undergone a process of professionalization. This process includes the establishment of professional associations and the gradual development of targeted training programmes. The Association of Corporate Treasurers (ACT) in Great Britain is a prime example. The Dutch Association of Corporate Treasurers (DACT) was established in the Netherlands in 1996.
At that time, representatives of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and DACT began preparations for a professional programme of study. The result was the first post-graduate programme in Treasury Management at VU Amsterdam in 1997. This new programme was a fitting complement to the long tradition of post-graduate courses at the School of Business and Economics. The programme is recognized by the Registered Treasurer Foundation and the International Group of Treasury Associations (IGTA), and is currently the only of its kind in the Netherlands. Graduates can join the ranks of Registered Treasurers (RT).
Characteristics of the programme
This part-time programme (courses are held on a single afternoon and evening per week) is characterized by its compact and flexible structure. Personal attention and an optimal individual coaching are hallmarks of the programme. The programme's structure is reminiscent of an executive programme.
The programme is offered as a complete package. In other words, costs for books and other materials are included, lunches are provided, and occasional two-day meetings at professional conference facilities are part of the programme and covered by the course fee.
After two years, students who complete all programme components to the satisfaction of the Board of Examiners will be awarded a diploma, which gives them the right to use the title 'Registered Treasurer' (RT). This title has been filed by the Registered Treasurer Foundation. The board of the foundation is made up of representatives from the Dutch Association of Corporate Treasurers (DACT), the business sector and the academic world.
