The BiD Student Challenge is a competition between (international) business and economic students, representing universities from all over the country. In a time period of ten weeks, the teams reviewed a business plan of an entrepreneur form a developing country with the help of a professional coach. The main objective of the event is to put in practice the knowledge and expertise of the students to stimulate local private sector development in emerging nations.

The competition has started on the 9 February with a kick-off. During this event the students received the business plans and among others former Minister for Development Cooperation Jan Pronk motivated the participants and shared his knowledge about entrepreneurs in developing countries. During the competition both the coaches and the students got the chance to develop their skills in a special masterclass at our sponsors BDO and PwC.

At the finals, the jury, existing of Harmen Verbruggen (Dean, VU University Amsterdam), Maria Pontes (BiD Network), Wim Holterman (PwC) and Douglas Grobbe (Amsterdam Bright City), announced the top 5 teams. These teams stole the show with their pitch about the business plan they reviewed. To show the participants that their hard work will pay off, Maria Pontes and Anna Chojnacka (1%CLUB) showed us the success of several entrepreneurs in developing countries after the help of volunteers. After the exciting evening Samantha Rippinger, Anja Wesbuer, Annemarieke de Groot and Gabi de Wijs turned out to have the best proposal to convince the investors.
