Starting point is the CareerLeader online assessment. It will help you to discover the career ingredients that suit you: what are you good at, what interests you, and what motivates you?

During the workshop, we will analyse your results in small groups and discuss what these results mean for your career path and the choice of master's programme. Your registration includes the CareerLeader assessment (a value of € 80, but offered at a reduced rate--see blow).

Accounting and control is a wide field, offering a rich diversity in career options. Accounting professionals work in business enterprises, not-for-profit entities and in government. Some are external or internal auditors, others work as controllers or chief financial officers. Some specialize in IT audit and accounting information systems. Others are tax inspectors, financial analysts, or work for regulatory agencies. It is a dynamic field, and it is common for people to change roles during their careers.

So how will you find your way into and in this fascinating area? And what choices can you make during your bachelor programme to help you get there?

The SBE School of Accounting offers a strong educational portfolio consisting of the Accounting & Control (fulltime or parttime) MSc programme and a range of postgraduate professional programmes.  No matter where you want to go in in accounting and control, there is a track for you. To help you discover whether accounting and control is where you want to go, and how the School of Accounting can assist you, visit the information session on Thursday 16 November. This event is targeted primarily at first and second-year students in SBE’s bachelor programmes, but more senior students are certainly welcome!

Programme and location
We start at 17:30 with a plenary session in the VU Amsterdam main building, room 7A-33.

  • Overview of career options in accounting and control
  • General introduction to programmes of the SBE School of Accounting
  • How to plan your studies

The plenary session is followed by a buffet and an information market in which the all programmes of the School of Accounting are present. You will meet staff and alumni, learn more about the field and discuss your specific issues in planning your studies, e.g. do you have to take specific electives or a minor? Should you plan an internship or work experience? How flexible can you be in your planning?

Participating master programmes

  • Accountancy (Registeraccountant, RA)
  • MSc Accounting & Control (fulltime and parttime)
  • International Executive Master in Auditing (IEMA)
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
  • Certified Public Controller (CPC, Controller in de publieke en non-profit sector)
  • Compliance en integriteitmanagement
  • Digital Auditing
  • Executive Master in Finance and Control (Registercontroller, RC)
  • IT Audit, compliance and advisory (Register-EDP Auditor, RE)

Please note that, as of now, most postgraduate programmes are based on the Dutch regulatory environment and are taught mostly or exclusively in Dutch.  The plenary session of the event will be held in Dutch. International students are welcome nonetheless, and during the information market the various programmes will be happy to discuss possible options for international students who wish to obtain a professional qualification in the Netherlands.
